Here is a list of knitting and dyeing books that I would recommend to anyone. (In no particular order). I have personally read and/or completed projects out of them all. Please check back soon as I plan on adding more!
- World of Knitted Toys
by Kath Dalmeny: This book is so much fun! Just flipping through it is enjoyable. All the animals and characters are so cute it’s hard to decide which to knit!
- Wild Color
by Jenny Dean: This book has been my dyeing bible these days. It is full of great info on getting started dyeing using plant materials. Another great thing is that it is easy to follow and has great pictures.
- Mason-Dixon Knitting: The Curious Knitters’ Guide: Stories, Patterns, Advice, Opinions, Questions, Answers, Jokes, and Pictures
by Kay Gardiner & Ann Meador Shayne: Fun projects and reading.
- The Natural Knitter: How to Choose, Use, and Knit Natural Fibers from Alpaca to Yak
By Barbara Albright: Beautiful pictures and it is full of all kinds of info on using natural fibers. It also briefly covers using natural dyes. Gives detailed instructions on using onion skins as a dye.
- Last-Minute Knitted Gifts
By Joelle Hoverson: I really like this book. There are so many great projects in here. The pictures are also very nice to look at. It is good for flipping through when you are looking for ideas on starting a new project.

A Dyer’s Garden: From Plant to Pot Growing Dyes for Natural Fibers
by Rita Buchanan: A great little book on using plants for dyeing. It is not as thorough as Wild Color by Jenny Dean but it does have lots of good info. There is also info on how to grow certain plants for using as dye.
